Report: New York insiders suggest FSG have new asking price for Liverpool as they look for sale

Liverpool owner John Henry could be willing to accept a new, lower price of £3.4bn to sell the club.

That’s according to a report in the Liverpool Echo this morning. They claim that sources in New York have told them that such an offer would ‘open the door to a conversation.’

And it’s no surprise that it should. Such a sale would reportedly give FSG a 1,033 per cent profit.

However, it’s also suggested that this price could still change. Valuations of sports teams across the board are said to be on the rise, which could play into the Liverpool owner’s thinking.

So, it would appear that although not in any particular rush to sell the club, things still have potential to move quickly, too.

Man United join the selling party

With news coming through last night that Manchester United are now also potentially on the market, perhaps FSG will push a little more here.

They won’t want any potential investors or buyers having their eyes wander to their great rivals.

Currently owned by Americans too, it seems quite likely that United’s new buyers may also be from across the pond.

That has the potential to create a scenario where you have the same group of bidders trying to get their hands on two different clubs.

For Liverpool fans, that may sound like a bit of a nightmare. But to FSG, it might be just what they were looking for.

They were initially reported to be looking for closer to £4bn to sell their investment (The Mirror). With that asking price now seemingly lowered ever so slightly, perhaps it’ll shoot up again as United’s valuation becomes clearer.

As supporters, there isn’t too much Liverpool, or United, fans can do about it. While the businessmen float the clubs about to the highest bidder, it can feel like the soul of the institutions are being overlooked.

Hopefully things can be settled sooner rather than later. Performances on the pitch have been bad enough for Liverpool this season, we don’t need this distraction dragging on for too long, please.
