‘I just think’: TalkSPORT pundit names the ‘extraordinary’ player Liverpool should sign instead of Bellingham

TalkSPORT pundit Graeme Souness has said Liverpool should sign Leicester City’s James Maddison over Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

Taking to the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast with Sam Allardyce, the Reds legend spoke of the side’s chances of signing the Bundesliga star, in which he claims to prefer the Foxes man.

Regarding Bellingham, Souness claimed:

“I think all the big guns are after him and I think Liverpool would do well to sign him,” he said.

“I think they will have stiff opposition.

“The way football works today, if Real Madrid come after you, you generally end up there.

“He’s a player, I like him very much, but I just think there are more goals in James Maddison, and I like James Maddison.”

Souness backs Maddison over Bellingham

In spite of how talented Maddison is as a player, he should not be compared to, or worse, be tipped to be signed over Bellingham.

The Leicester playmaker is set to turn 26-years-old over the coming days, whereas the BVB starlet is only 19 years old.

The teenager can certainly be described as the complete midfielder. From passing, shooting, dribbling, tackling, heading; the former Birmingham City player can do it all.

Maddison, on the other hand, is a brilliant attacking-midfielder. In front of goal, he is extremely clinical. This even transpires to his set-pieces, for which he regularly converts around the edge of the box.

When it comes to creating chances, the Foxes maestro is fantastic. His vision is unbelievable, and his flair on the ball is excellent. For his numbers, he has been hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker.

However, he cannot offer what Bellingham can in other aspects of the game. He is far less proficient defensively, meaning he is often used off the wing.

If Liverpool are limited to signing just one of the two England internationals, Bellingham should always be the priority. His unfathomable potential in the middle of the park would be unmatched for years to come. There is an evident reason as to why every major club across Europe are currently trying to sign him.

Saying this, it wouldn’t be bad to see either in a Reds shirt, so maybe we can welcome them both over the summer.
