Anfield legend Steven Gerrard has singled out Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham as the one England player he is ‘really excited’ to watch at the World Cup.
Amid strong rumours linking the Borussia Dortmund star with a Merseyside switch, the former Aston Villa manager spoke of the 19-year-old’s incredible potential during an interview with the Liverpool Echo about the upcoming tournament.

“I think for the viewers watching this World Cup, I think there’s a massive opportunity to enjoy a massive pool of players from different countries.
“You know, I’ve competed against a lot of these players – your Messi’s and your Ronaldo’s of this world – obviously they’ll be the two big names with a lot of focus, but tournaments going to littered with high class players.
“Obviously, I’ll be focusing my attention on England. I’m really excited to watch Jude Bellingham, I’m a massive fan of him. I think the next 10-15 years he’s going to become an England superstar.
“Yeah, you know there’s a lot of Premier League players out at the World Cup and they’ll be hoping they’re on the right side of a successful tournament.”
Steven Gerrard praises Jude Bellingham
Bellingham has often spoke of his admiration for Gerrard as a midfielder. He even revealed once how he had saved a clip to his phone of the Reds legend praising him, having watched it over and over.
Therefore, as one of his footballing heroes, the Merseyside club have one thing going for them in the race to secure the 19-year-old’s signature.
With talks of interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City, Liverpool are somewhat dwarfed in terms of transfer budget.

However, the Reds do have legacy on their side. If Bellingham desires a Premier League move, Anfield will be the perfect place for the player to add to a club’s history.
Following in Gerrard’s footsteps, the youngster could go on to revive Liverpool’s midfield; something the club are desperately crying out for.
Bellingham could truly become one of the greats at Anfield, so the Reds should keep an eye on his progress at the World Cup. Hopefully Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson can do convincing whilst the trio are out together in Qatar.
