Report: PSG could try and sign ‘outstanding’ Liverpool player at the end of the season

Both Paris Saint Germain and Juventus could be looking to snap Liverpool’s Naby Keita up on a free transfer.

That’s according to journalist Neil Jones. Writing on Substack, Jones laid out the options for Keita, as his contract end draws near.

The most likely option, it would seem, would be for the Liverpool midfielder to leave for nothing next summer. To that end, Jones reports that there has been interest from Germany, where his success at RB Leipzig is still fresh in the memory.

Also in the running are two giants of the European game. Juventus in particular are well-known for their savvy movement in the free transfer market and are mentioned as an interested party.

PSG on the other hand are pretty well stocked in midfield but may see Keita as an attractive option.

Meanwhile, Jones doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Liverpool No.8 still earning himself a new deal. It’s claimed that all options remain on the table for Keita as of right now, including a potential January sale. However, it is conceded that a new deal looks ‘unlikely’ at this stage.

Naby reaches crunch time at Liverpool

For a while, it had looked as though Keita was happily drifting towards a contract extension at Liverpool.

After years of struggling to maintain his fitness, last season had appeared to be something of a breakthrough for the Guinean.

40 games in all competitions represented the best return of his Liverpool career. Jurgen Klopp had called him ‘outstanding’ via liverpoolfc.com in April and he looked ready to finally make a proper go of it at Anfield.

Fast forward just a few months and things couldn’t be more different. 22 games into the new season and Keita has played just five minutes of football.

Additionally, there has also been talk that Naby is unhappy with his role in the squad. With his contract ticking down, all signs point towards an exit.

Truthfully, the only question mark is whether Keita will leave in January, or in the summer.

If Liverpool are to let him move on in the New Year, they could be as well bringing in a replacement. For that reason, you won’t find too many fans who would be opposed to letting him start a new chapter as soon as possible.

It simply hasn’t worked out for Keita at Liverpool. Whatever his next chapter, hopefully he can realise his potential.
