Liverpool are ready to offer a contract extension to long-serving striker Roberto Firmino.

Firmino is close to entering the final six months of his deal. Should he leave, the 31-year-old would draw the curtain on an eight-year stay at Anfield.

But now, according to Goal, Liverpool could offer Firmino the chance to extend his stay at the club beyond a decade.

That’s because the Reds are reportedly preparing to offer the Brazilian a new, two-year deal. This would take his Liverpool to a pretty astonishing ten years.

Not satisfied to end things there, it’s also claimed that the Reds will include the option of an extra year for Firmino, too. For his part, the player is said to be ‘open to the idea’ of signing on again.

Firmino ready to add to his legacy at Anfield

Every Liverpool fan should be delighted by this news. Okay, Bobby isn’t quite the force he once was, but he’s still a club legend.

It’s never easy when faced with the prospect of a legend leaving, especially one as well-loved as Firmino.

And besides, the Brazil international has proven that he’s still got plenty to offer. Now thirty-one, some have been writing him off for the last three years or so.

It’s true that his output has wavered since probably the 2019/20 season, but he’s been scoring goals at a decent rate this season.

He has the full trust of Jurgen Klopp and, as the Liverpool squad faces transition, it’s handy to have a couple of veterans about.

Firmino’s new contract should be reflective of the fact that he perhaps won’t be a guaranteed starter in the future.

If Liverpool manage to negotiate that with their No.9, then there’s no downside of him staying on. None at all.

Should he eventually sign up to a decade at Anfield, it will just underline what a special player Bobby is. Few manage to reach such a milestone at the club. Taking his medals into consideration too, Firmino has already built a big legacy at Liverpool. Long may that continue.
