‘One way to look at it’: Pundit thinks people have Liverpool target’s £100m price tag all wrong

Liverpool could actually profit by signing Jude Bellingham for over £100m, says Emile Heskey. The former Red supports the vast outlay.

Liverpool have been consistently linked with Jude Bellingham, of course. It’s an open secret that they want him and the player could well move in 2023.

ESPN are just one of those reporting it but the claims are everywhere. Liverpool want Bellingham and they might just pay a fortune to get him.

Borussia Dortmund will likely ask for nine figures in order to sell their star asset, after all. That’s according to the Athletic, who put his pice in the £130m range.

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes that’s not too much, however. He feels that any amount spent on Bellingham will end up being irrelevant as the player will eventually command a profit.

“I think Liverpool are still in that hunt, they’re one of the biggest draws in the Premier League and indeed the world,” Heskey told the Mirror. “But it just depends on how much of a priority midfield is for them.

“Are the club willing to spend over £100million on one player? Because that’s the sort of figure we’re talking

“One way to look at it is that by investing that sort of money into a player could generate more money in the long run, because you’re securing one of the brightest young talents in world football.”

Liverpool could profit on Jude Bellingham

That’s certainly why you’d end up spending the money. The belief is that Bellingham would bring so much quality that you’d profit through his performances on the pitch – and that might be the case.

But it’s the risk involved that might put clubs off. If Bellingham fulfils his potential, there’s no doubt that Heskey is right. It’s just the ‘if’ that’s scary.

Few players have lived up to those price tags. Barcelona signed three in Ousmane Dembélé, Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann. None of them have come close to delivering form worth that money and two have already left the club.

Bellingham does feel like as safe a bet as you can get, though. He ticks every single box Liverpool would want and he’s still only 19. We’d take the risk but it’s too early to tell if the Reds will.
