Diogo Jota won’t return from injury for some time, a latest update suggests. The Liverpool forward has struggled in 2022.
This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They claim that Diogo Jota won’t return until well in 2023. The Liverpool forward has been out for months after picking up an injury.
Pep Lijnders did confirm on Wednesday that Jota will meet up with Liverpool in Dubai for their winter getaway. His rehabilitation should go well there, says the Reds’ coach.
“Diogo will join us to continue his rehab,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “The conditions to train and recover in Dubai are just very, very good. A change of scenery is always a welcome factor when recovering from a long-term injury.”
It seems that rehab will extend far beyond the duration of the Dubai training camp and into the New Year.
Diogo Jota return update
It’s a blow as Jota just can’t escape injuries at the moment. His entire 2022 has felt overshadowed by his time away from the pitch. That’s a massive blow, really, as his form has been incredible whenever he’s had consistent games.
From Liverpool’s point of view, losing a forward isn’t the end of the world. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez have been excellent recently and Luis Díaz will return once club football is back.

That’s more than enough for Jurgen Klopp to work with and Liverpool won’t be short of forwards. Having Jota, though, does push the squad to another level in terms of quality, though.
Especially as rotation will be such an advantage post-World Cup. Teams will have exhausted players and games coming thick and fast. Liverpool already look to be in a good position but having an extra forward – one as ‘brilliant’ as Jota – to rotate would be magic.
Hopefully, he can be back and firing in 2023. It’s about time he had some luck with his fitness.
