‘He will improve’: Former Man United star expects Liverpool player to get even better

Diego Forlan backs Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool career to improve after his start to life at Anfield. The Uruguayan clearly rates his compatriot.

Diego Forlan is one in a long line of excellent Uruguayan forwards, with the likes of Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani taking over his place as the start of their national team. The latest is Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and Forlan gave his opinion on the 23-year-old this week.

He tells Reds that there’s even more to come from Nunez.

“I think [his start is] good,” said Forlan to TalkSPORT. “Of course, everyone was expecting more goals, maybe, because of the amount of money they paid for him, but I think it’s really good.

“He’s been scoring goals, he’s playing. Now, obviously, the team is struggling a little bit – in the Premier League, they’re not playing the way they’ve been the last couple of years – but he has a great manager. [Klopp] is very experienced, he’ll learn a lot with him, also with the players.

“So I think he’s doing his job. Of course, he can improve and he will improve in the future.”

Forlan will have mixed emotions about that, of course. He’s a former Manchester United striker – one famous for scoring against Liverpool, in fact – but there’s little doubt that he’ll want Nunez to succeed.

Nunez is going to be the striker to score goals for Uruguay in this next generation, after all. Along with the likes of Fede Valverde, the hope is there that the Liverpool player can achieve the kind of success that Forlan, Suárez and Cavani did.

Everything we’ve seen from Nunez suggests he can live up to that. He’s a striker who can seemingly do everything at his best, after all.

He’s quick, strong, he can finish, his movement is exceptional and he never stops working. If Forlan believes he’s only going to get better, then Liverpool fans will have a lot to love.
