Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.
That’s according to Sport, as reported by Calciomercato. They claim that the Nigerian is on the list of ‘numerous’ Premier League clubs, of which Liverpool are one.
It’s said that an ‘auction’ for Chukwueze would start at around £35m.
But if Liverpool, or Arsenal, want to get ahead of the queue, they better do so quickly. That’s because the number of ‘suitors’ for the 23-year-old is reportedly growing.
Chukwueze still waiting for Premier League move
Given the number of times Chukwueze has been claimed to be on the move from Spain, it’s a wonder that he’s still there.
Still only twenty-three, the Nigeria international seems to be on the verge of leaving every transfer window. When you’ve got players like Samuel Eto’o calling you ‘incredible,’ [Goal] perhaps that’s no surprise.
Despite that, he’s now remarkably into his seventh season at Villarreal. During that time, Chukwueze has seemingly been linked to every Premier League team going.
One of the most prominent of those occasions was back in December 2019, when Frank Lampard reportedly wanted him at Chelsea.
Back then, The Telegraph claimed that Chukwueze could be part of a £150m spending spree by the Chelsea boss.
Liverpool themselves were also said to have tried their best to lure the rapid winger from the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Back in February 2020, France Football claimed that the Reds had made a £29m bid for Chukwueze during that year’s January transfer window. However, this was said to have fallen some way short of Villarreal’s £54m valuation.
Fast forward nearly three years, and Chukwueze’s name is being mentioned again. Although this time, it sounds as though his price may be a little more reasonable. Perhaps one to watch.
