Liverpool confirmed their participation in the Dubai Super Cup next month. The four-team tournament will include a strange rule.
Liverpool will play in the Dubai Super Cup next month as part of their warm-weather training during the World Cup. The Reds confirmed that on Tuesday, with games against AC Milan and Lyon.
Liverpool will start against Lyon, facing them on December 11th. They’ll then take on Milan on the 16th. Arsenal are the other team in the tournament, but they won’t face Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But not facing every team in the tournament isn’t where the strange rules stop. Per the Liverpool Echo, wins will be three points and a draw gets you two. There will also be a penalty shootout after every game, with a bonus point going to the winners.
Liverpool to play in Dubai Super Cup
Liverpool already boast a remarkably strong group of players for their winter getaway. That’ll only get stronger, too, as players will rejoin the Reds once their participation at the World Cup comes to an end.
In other words, as soon as they’re knocked out, they’re off to Dubai.
Klopp will hope that this trip to Dubai and the World Cup break has a transformative effect on Liverpool’s season. And it really might – the majority of the squad is going to get a mid-season rest here. Many of those players are the amongst the best at the club, too.

Mohamed Salah, for instance, struggled over the second half of last season after playing at the Africa Cup of Nations. The drop-off in his form was clear for everyone to see, given he lit the world up before the tournament.
Well, this time he experiences the opposite. Salah gets a long break in order to prepare for the second-half of the season – along with the likes of Thiago, Andy Robertson and Luis Díaz. That could mean we see their best form in 2023.
