Talks to tie Roberto Firmino down to a new contract at Liverpool are ‘progressing very well.’
That’s according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenburg. Taking to Twitter, Plettenburg claimed that Firmino could soon be signing a new deal at Anfield.
“Been told that talks about a new contract beyond 2023 are progressing very well. But no final steps at this stage. Player can really imagine to extend. Relation with Klopp should be perfect,” wrote the journalist.
It had looked as though the Liverpool man would call time on an 8-year stay at the club next summer. But after an excellent season so far, things appear to have turned in his favour.

Whether or not to give Bobby a new contract is potentially a divisive one with Liverpool fans.
There will be some who feel that, with the squad aging as it is, an older player shouldn’t be kept around even longer.
Besides, Firmino’s output has started to waver over the last 18 months. Having played more than anyone else under Jurgen Klopp since his £29m arrival, his legs had looked to be finally waning.
But perhaps those feeling are a little premature. Liverpool’s No.9 has been superb in large parts this season, scoring nine goals already.
Just two shy of his tally for last season, and equalling the campaign before that, the Brazilian has rolled back the years.
Yes, some poor, ineffective displays have been spliced in amongst that. But he is far from being alone in that respect throughout the Liverpool squad.
As Firmino has never been a player to rely on pace, there shouldn’t be a worry about a drop-off in that regard. His brain has always been his most potent weapon, and he’s often appeared as sharp as ever during 2022/23.
Weighing all that up, and we’d absolutely love to see Bobby given a new deal. He fits like a glove at Anfield and we’re not ready to see his beaming smile vacate the premises just yet. Vamos Bobby, the show goes on!
