Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram could leave the club on a free transfer next summer, amid interest from Liverpool.

That’s according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, who writes in his exclusive Daily Briefing on CaughtOffside’s Substack.

Having bagged ten goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season, the 25-year-old has drawn up interest in the transfer market.

The former France international is out of contract in the summer, and Romano believes he will be exploring his options amid Premier League interest.

The striker has been linked with Arsenal in a recent report from Milan Live, whilst Liverpool are rumoured as potential suitors by German outlet Fussball Transfers.

“I think there will be many rumours around Thuram as he’s good player available as potential free agent in the summer,” Romano said.

“I’m told he could really leave on a free transfer, so he’ll consider all options in the next months.”

Thuram to Liverpool?

When looking at Thuram’s stats, it is easy to see why the Reds are interested in securing his signature on a free transfer.

Compared with positional peers across Europe, the attacker ranks in the top 13 percent for non-penalty goals scored. Consequently, he has earned statistical comparisons to the likes of Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski and Napoli’s Victor Osimhem.

The Gladbach man is a very direct striker; he lurks deeply in the opposition’s half, and he takes on a high number of shots in the attacking penalty area.

This approach would suit the Premier League well, and his strong physicality would allow a swift adjustment to English football.

Hailed as a ‘world class striker’ by Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schäfer, Thuram’s potential arrival on Anfield would be a magnificent coup for the Reds.

Although Darwin Nunez is in fine form, Liverpool could do with an extra attacker as they look to build further quality in depth.

Available on a free, this would be a brilliant bit of business for Jurgen Klopp, as players of this quality don’t come around often on the transfer market.

Therefore, the Merseyside club should do all they can to land his signature next summer.
