Report: Liverpool must sign 19-year-old Spanish playmaker in January to avoid his price doubling

Liverpool must sign Alberto Moleiro in January or his price could double, according to reports. The Reds want the playmaker.

This comes from Mundo Derportivo. They claim that Liverpool are firmly in the mix for Alberto Moleiro – but they’re not alone. In fact, this race is getting more and more intense.

Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are the other two clubs who have been named as interested over the last week. Now, though, Manchester City and Real Madrid want the player.

That’s an awful lot of interest in a 19-year-old currently featuring in Spain’s Segunda Division. And it appears that clubs would actually like Moleiro to stay there – or at least, for Las Palmas to miss out on promotion.

The report claims that Moleiro’s release clause is around £26m. However, that doubles if Las Palmas earn a place in La Liga next season. Thus signing the playmaker this winter is the only way to guarantee that £26m price tag.

We can’t claim to know all that much about Moleiro. It seems obvious that he’s a big talent, though, given the interest in him. And as we saw with Fabio Carvalho, you can find extremely talented young players outside of the top flight.

Just as importantly, you can find them cheap. In this case, though, that only applies if Las Palmas fail to get promoted. They’re currently second in the Segunda, three points off of the top spot. Firmly in the promotion race, then.

It’s also worth noting that Las Palmas will likely stick to that release clause as Moleiro’s fee. They rejected an offer of around £8m up front from Barcelona that included another £13m in add-ons. The player’s contract doesn’t expire until 2026, either, so they have no need to budge.

If Liverpool want Moleiro, then, we imagine it’s £26m this winter or risk it being £52m come the summer. That might just force the Reds’ hand.
