James Milner has insisted that Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has a great sense of humour.
Nunez has had some difficulty communicating with his new teammates since arriving from Benfica last summer. Unable to speak English, the Uruguayan has had to rely on fellow Spanish speakers to get his points across.
Despite this though, Milner has told LFCTV that the 23-year-old is actually really funny. Speaking after yesterday’s 3-1 win over Southampton, the veteran midfielder praised how Nunez has fitted into the Liverpool squad.
“It’s great that Darwin’s banging the goals in. He’s settled in pretty quick to be fair, he’s still learning the language but he’s getting it. He’s got a great sense of humour, and we’ll obviously see more of that I’m sure once his English comes out more. But he’s got everything and it’s pleasing for him to get the goals.
“Watching him in training and his attributes, his willingness to work for the team, he’s obviously great in the air, big presence, great strike with both feet, hits it early, wants to score goals. He’s a different type of striker to the other guys that are up there. It’s great for us as a squad to have these players who all have different attributes.”

Nunez turning doubters to believers
Watching how Nunez has progressed over the last two months or so at Liverpool has been absolutely brilliant.
Despite consistently positive messages from players about their new teammate, some fans may have had some doubts.
Early showings weren’t particularly encouraging, as Darwin struggled to adapt to Jurgen Klopp’s tactics. But a change in shape seemed to bring out the best in him.
Once he stopped trying to impress quite so much, he has simply let his football do the talking. As his guard has dropped and the goals have started flowing, we’re now starting to see the real Darwin.

This has inevitably led to fans taking more and more to their new man. He leaves everything out on the pitch, and this is something that supporters recognise.
In a similar manner to Luis Diaz, his absolute willingness to win is infectious. At times, perhaps petulance can take hold of him, but that’s all part of his appeal.
As he learns and matures, we’ll probably see a slightly less chaotic version of Nunez. In fact, we already are a little. But no matter what, hopefully he won’t lose the sense of fun that emnates from him as he does the business for the Reds.
