Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has congratulated former West Ham United teammate Declan Rice on his World Cup call-up.
Rice, who has attracted interest from Liverpool in the past, was included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad this afternoon. And after the West Ham skipper posted his reaction on Instagram, Adrian made sure to pass on his best.
“Well deserved amigo,” wrote the Liverpool ‘keeper, alongside a clapping-hands emoji.
The two players spent several years in the first team together at the London Stadium.
Perhaps it’s worth extending Adrian’s contract at Anfield for another year after all…
Rice on Liverpool’s radar
As Liverpool hunt for their perfect midfield addition, Rice is a name that keeps on cropping up.
The England man doesn’t have all that long left on his contract at West Ham, and could be on the market this summer.
Of course, he wouldn’t come cheap. But should Liverpool miss out on his likely midfield partner in Qatar – Jude Bellingham – Rice would be an excellent alternative.
Former Reds midfieder Danny Murphy certainly thinks so, anyway. Speaking on TalkSPORT a couple of weeks ago, Murphy suggested that Rice would be a success at Anfield.

“I think Declan could become the number eight of any side. Can you imagine him in a side with Rodri and De Bruyne? Could you imagine him in Liverpool’s side?” posed the pundit.
It is an enticing prospect. Although he began his career very much as a defensive midfielder, he has now become a little more box-to-box.
That’s exactly what Liverpool need. It’s clear that Bellingham fits that profile perfectly, but perhaps Rice does too.
In that respect, it will certainly be well worth Liverpool fans keeping an eye on how England’s midfield operates in Qatar.
