Liverpool scouts are suspected to have been watching Gustav Isaksen in action this weekend, according to reports. The 21-year-old is building a reputation.

This comes from Ekstra Bladet. They claim that Liverpool had scouts present as FC Midtjylland hosted FC Nordsjælland this weekend.

The big question is ‘who were they watching?’ and the outlet feels there’s an obvious candidate. “FC Midtjylland’s fiery winger Gustav Isaksen has undoubtedly been on the list,” they write.

Liverpool weren’t the only ones present, it should be said, but were the most notable. Ajax, Atalanta, Benfica and Bayer Leverkusen also had people at the game.

Liverpool watching Gustav Isaksen

Isaksen is a 21-year-old winger and, admittedly, not a player we know much about. He does have four goals and an assist in 15 league games this season – a mediocre return, but Midtjylland are enduring a terrible season down in 8th.

What’s more likely to have people’s attention, though, is Isaksen boasting three goals and two assists in six Europa League appearances. That’s a fine return for the Group Stage, given the level is higher than the Danish Superliga.

Liverpool might have found a player they like, then. His performances in Europe will draw the eye and the Reds may have room in their squad, too.

Isaksen usually plays from the right and Liverpool do lack cover for Mohamed Salah there. Isaksen could be a cheap gamble to take, able to cover Salah without spending the money destined for new midfielders.

Of course, it’s important to remember that Liverpool scout a lot of players. Scouting doesn’t at all mean a bid is imminent – just that someone caught their eye. Given Midtjylland vs Nordsjælland is a big game in Denmark, it makes sense to be there.

Isaksen is a name to keep an eye on, then, but not necessarily someone you should expect to see at Anfield anytime soon.
