Jurgen Klopp considers Son Heung-Min to be one of his ‘biggest mistakes’. The Liverpool boss wishes he had the player.
Liverpool didn’t have to face Son Heung-Min on Sunday – and good thing, too. The Korean was missing for Tottenham Hotspur after fracturing his eye socket. As Spurs chased the game late on, they’d have wished to have him.
Son has become one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League, after all. He shared the Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah last season, in fact, and his partnership with Harry Kane is lethal.
Jurgen Klopp certainly rates the player highly. In fact, he apparently views his failure to sign Son as a major mistake.
“One of the biggest mistakes in my life is not signing Son Heung-min,” KBS News report him as telling them. “He is fantastic, a symbol of Korean football and one of the best strikers in the world.”
Jurgen Klopp wanted Son Heung-Min
The suggestion here is that Klopp actually had a chance to sign Son. We can only imagine he means for Borussia Dortmund as the Korean had already joined Tottenham by the time Klopp joined Liverpool.
But there’s little doubt that Son would be a sensation under Klopp. The pace, energy and work-rate he boasts are all phenomenal and essentially what the German demands from his forwards.

The fact that Son has been so successful under various playing styles is a sign of his incredible quality, too. Spurs haven’t exactly kept things stable during his spell at the club.
Again, we doubt the chance to sign Son for Liverpool has ever come up but he’s high on the list of players we’d love to have. Maybe even in the top three across the Premier League over the last few years.
Spurs have a special one, that’s for sure. No one wonder Klopp feels regret.
