‘He can learn so much’: Neville tells Liverpool player to study his ‘class’ teammate

Gary Neville believes Darwin Nunez can learn from Mohamed Salah. The two Liverpool forwards combined against Tottenham Hotspur.

Mohamed Salah was the show’s star as Liverpool won 2-1 at Tottenham. He grabbed both goals – two fine finishes to make it nine goals in eight games.

The first saw a combination that Liverpool fans will love, too. The Reds worked a move down the left-flank before finding Darwin Nunez in the box. He set up Salah, who controlled and finished in one fluid motion.

The pair could be something special, it seems, and Gary Neville believes Nunez, in particular, can benefit from it. He told the Gary Neville Podcast that the Uruguayan should study Salah and how the Egyptian operates in the final third.

“Up until that Rangers game, it had been a difficult run for [Salah],” said Neville. “We expect this high level all the time but today – his touch, his composure in the final third…

“Nunez does really well. Nunez is the threat, but Salah’s the class. He can learn so much from Salah because Nunez is the unpolished diamond. He’s a threat, he’s a nuisance, he challenges, he harasses. But then sometimes it’s a bit scruffy.

“If I was Nunez I would just watch Salah constantly for what he does in the final third and particularly in the box.”

Nunez can learn from Salah

He can absolutely learn from him. Nunez does so much right but getting in position for ‘routine’ chances is essentially his weak-point. The 23-year-old often doesn’t set himself right or has a poor touch in the wrong moment. All things Salah excels at.

Of course, Nunez still finds goals. He’s such an unbelievably difficult player to handle that he always will, forcing defenders to give them up game after game. But if he could also nail the simpler stuff, Liverpool would have a sensational forward who scores for fun.

Salah is undoubtedly a brilliant player to learn from, then. The two of them look unstoppable together and hopefully, we see the duo in action against Southampton next week.

Because the more Nunez plays with Salah, the better he’ll become.
