Former England goalkeeper David Seaman has made a surprising prediction for Liverpool’s game against Tottenham this weeked.
The Reds come into the game off the back of two Premier League losses in a row. Spurs meanwhile are flying high in third place.
But speaking on his podcast Seaman Says, the pundit has backed Liverpool to cause a minor upset in North London.
“Well Spurs after their miraculous escape at the weekend, coming back from 2-0, and Liverpool losing, you would think that it’s all Spurs,” began the 59-year-old. “It’s a good time to play Liverpool but I’m going to go for a Liverpool win. I’m going to go 2-1 Liverpool.”
Given his Arsenal connections, perhaps that shouldn’t be too much of a surprise after all, something Seaman acknowledged.
“I’m sure that’s very well received by all the Tottenham fans,” he chuckled.
Predicting which Liverpool will turn up on Sunday
Predicting Liverpool’s games right now is a fool’s errand. You simply don’t know which version of Jurgen Klopp’s team will turn up.
Will it be the solid, determined team who handed Manchester City their only loss of the campaign so far? Or will it be the limp, spineless group who were outclassed by both Leeds United and Nottingham Forest?
At the moment, it’s hard to feel too optimistic. Yes, Liverpool got back to winning ways with a relatively impressive 2-0 win over a previously unstoppable Napoli side on Tuesday. But that was very much a dead rubber game.
The performance against Leeds will be fresher in supporter’s minds coming into Sunday’s match up.
Spurs are on a high, too. Having come back from 2-0 down to beat Bournemouth last weekend, they followed that up with a morale-boosting win over Marseille on Tuesday.
That win saw them qualify as group winners for the next stage of the Champions League. As a result, they’ll have their tails up.
They will be without Son Heung-Min, though. The South Korean has a decent record against Liverpool and won’t be missed by Reds fans. But with Harry Kane still lurking, Virgil Van Dijk and co will have to be at their best.
