Liverpool now have a second chance to sign Rodrigo De Paul this winter, according to reports. The Argentine could be perfect.
Cadena SER in Spain reports that Atletico Madrid have put Rodrigo De Paul up for sale. The midfielder only signed for the club in 2021 but has failed to live up to expectations.
And that puts him on the transfer list. Atletico’s failure to progress on the Champions League loses the club money, meaning they must sell in order to refresh the squad this winter.
That’s something they very much want to do as a difficult start to the season risks unravelling their long-term plans. De Paul isn’t the only player on the list, either. Thomas Lemar, Yannick Carrasco and, most notably, Joao Felix are also available to buy.

Now, Felix is the most obvious signing for big clubs and he’s a player we’d love to see at Liverpool. We’re just not sure the Reds can justify it. Yes, he’s a brilliant player but the squad doesn’t need an attacking playmaker right now.
Yes, Felix is superior to what Liverpool have there – they just have bigger concerns.
First and foremost, the Reds need investment in midfield. That’s where De Paul comes in, as he’s a player they reportedly tried to sign in 2021. Messaggero Veneto were merely one outlet reporting it back then, only for the Argentine to sign for Atletico.

Now, though, we do think Liverpool may want to take this second chance. De Paul was a magnificent midfielder with Udinese and did all of the things the Reds need right now.
He carries the ball through the lines wonderfully, threatens as a scorer, creates chances, and is very tidy in possession. On top of that, he can win tackles and play a more physical game.
De Paul’s problem at Atletico has largely been that Diego Simeone wants him doing more of the latter than the former. Liverpool, though, could have the 28-year-old back doing what he’s best at. As an injection of quality into the squad, the Reds won’t find many better options in January.
