Luke Chambers says he’s trying to learn form one Liverpool player in particular. The 18-year-old could debut next week.
Next week promises to be a big one for Liverpool’s academy. The Reds face Derby County in the EFL Cup, with Jurgne Klopp likely rotating heavily. His limited squad, however, means academy players are in line for games.
The likes of Stefan Bajcetic and Calvin Ramsay feel like nailed-on starters, honestly. They’ve already debuted for the senior side and both came on against Napoli this week.
But we could see some debuts and one player in line is Luke Chambers. The 18-year-old has been in fine form this season and scored in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday.
He’s been in and around the senior setup in training, too, and may get the nod against Derby. If only from the bench, anyway.
It would be a chance to show everything he’s learned.
Luke Chambers learning from Liverpool player
Chambers talked to the Liverpool Echo this week about the importance of training with the seniors. In particular, he wants to pick up as much as he can from Andy Robertson.
“I still have stuff in my game that I want to improve on and I think when I go up with the first team it’s also really good to look at Andy Robertson and see what he’s doing and things I can take to put in my game, so I am just really grateful for the opportunity,” says Chambers.
“I just need to keep taking these opportunities whenever they come. I do speak to Robbo and [Kostas] Tsimikas as well.

“I look at them both because obviously they are both some of the best at what they do, so I look at them both and try and get as much out of Robbo as I can and try to put stuff into my game.”
It’s what you want to hear and a massive advantage of having world-class players at the club. Integrate the youngsters and they’ll get one of the best learning experiences in the world.
Chambers cannot possibly have a better player to learn from than Robertson. Anything he picks up will be game-changing for him and we may just see it in action next week.
