Calvin Ramsay could make his debut for Liverpool against Napoli tomorrow evening, confirms Jurgen Klopp. The Scot is yet to feature.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Monday that Calvin Ramsay is in his plans to face Napoli. Liverpool go into their final Champions League group game having already qualified and with a slim chance of topping the group.
It could be a great opportunity to hand Ramsay his debut, then. The full-back arrived from Aberdeen in the summer but was immediately out with an injury. Only now is he finally getting minutes at Under 21 level.
Klopp believes Ramsay could play against the Serie A leaders, though. He said as much in his Monday press conference, saying it ‘should be possible’.
“And with Calvin, we have to see,” said Klopp. “That makes now no sense if we have to change a lot of players to bring Calvin in for his first senior [appearance].
“Coming on, yeah, for sure – these kinds of things should be possible.”
Calvin Ramsay in line for Liverpool debut
It’s a wonderful opportunity to at least give Ramsay minutes from the bench. At the end of the day, this game means little as it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool beat Napoli by three goals to top the group.

That’s no slight on Liverpool, either – we’re not sure anyone is beating Napoli by three goals right now. They’re Europe’s in-form team and an incredibly dangerous side.
It’s a chance to give players a breather, then, with the Reds already through. The likes of Ramsay coming off the bench makes a lot of sense, then, and prepares him well for what we expect to be a start against Derby County next week.
We’re crossing our fingers. Ramsay is a very talented player and continues to shine with the U21s, scoring again at the weekend. Let’s see what he can do at the top level.
