Jamie Carragher praised Andy Robertson’s delivery for Mohamed Salah’s equaliser for Liverpool against Leeds.
Commentating for Sky Sports, Carragher said Robertson’s ‘fantastic’ delivery was something Liverpool haven’t been doing all season.
“That delivery is absolutely fantastic. It’s on a plate for Mo Salah. You then think Firmino’s going to put it in, but there’s Johnny on the spot Salah,” said the former Reds defender.
“That was the hallmark of Liverpool in the last few years, the out ball from the fullbacks. We just haven’t seen it this season.”
Robertson had latched onto a cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool’s fullbacks dragged them back into the game.
Full-backs still waiting to spark into life
This is a fair comment from Carragher. Usually so heavily involved, Liverpool’s fullbacks have been slightly subdued this season.
Like many facets of Liverpool’s usual game, they just haven’t looked their usual selves.
To be fair to Robertson, he has been the better of the two regulars. His assist for Salah at Anfield tonight was his fifth of the season. He claimed one midweek for Darwin Nunez, and followed that up with another this evening.
In terms of Trent, he’s still waiting for his maiden assist of the campaign. He has piled in two lovely goals though, so he it isn’t as though the 23-year-old isn’t contributing.
Rather than that, it just feels as though the right-back isn’t quite as visible in Liverpool’s game as we’ve become used to.
He’s looking slightly jaded, slightly lethargic and just not quite at it in general.
The season is still young though, and every week is a chance to turn things around. Against Leeds though, he hasn’t managed to do that just yet.
Still, another half to put things right. Robertson showed the way as Liverpool came back from Rodrigo’s horrendously conceded opener. Hopefully there’s a little more of the same after the break.
