Darwin Nunez has shared what Mohamed Salah told him soon after he moved to Liverpool. The Egyptian had some advice.

Darwin Nunez has certainly had an interesting time since joining Liverpool. He came with a big fee and then started slowly in pre-season. In fact, some questioned him after 20 minutes in one friendly.

The Uruguayan talked about that time with ESPN, explaining that Mohamed Salah took the time to help him with advice.

“Salah is an excellent player and an excellent person,” Núñez told ESPN.

“When I arrived in pre-season, I was talking to him, we had Fabinho as a translator. In those first few games I was very nervous.

“I had arrived without training and things weren’t going my way. Then Mohamed called me to talk to me, he told me that I had to be calm because I was new, that I was just adapting to the club.

“He told me that he also went through that moment, that when he arrived in 2017, he didn’t know English.

“He told me that I was going to learn it, to be calm now, to do what I did at Benfica, that my potential was important for the team and that I had his backing and that of the captains.”

What Mo Salah told Darwin Nunez

It really is first-class from Salah – not that you’d expect anything less from the Liverpool squad. They all talked about how good Nunez was after playing against him last season and it’s safe to say that they backed the club signing him.

And so Salah found exactly the right words, even if he needed translating. Nunez’s potential is the most important thing for Liverpool – he’s got everything to become the star of the side.

Patience and calm are the two things he needs to realise that potential. It’s great to hear that Nunez has taken that on board and we think we’ve seen that in recent weeks. There’s little doubt – from the squad to the fans – that he’ll go on to become a top player.
