Two Liverpool players have missed the Reds’ flight to Amsterdam ahead of their meeting with Ajax, according to reports. Jurgen Klopp has a light squad.
This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They report that Kostas Tsimikas and Calvin Ramsay didn’t get on the plane as Liverpool flew out to Amsterdam.
The Reds will take on Ajax in a crunch Champions League tie tomorrow. Victory would put them into the knockout stages and potentially give them a breather against Napoli in matchday six. If they want it, of course – they could yet go all-out to try and win the group.
But injuries put Liverpool at risk against Ajax. Thiago is out, as are Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota. Naby Keita isn’t registered and only just back in training. Now it seems that the Reds will be without Tsimikas and Ramsay, leaving them very weak at full-back.

Now, we didn’t expect either Tsimikas or Ramsay to start this one. The two major concerns are that Liverpool won’t have cover for either full-back, particularly Andy Robertson.
And if the players are injured, will they also miss the game this weekend? That would be a massive blow for Liverpool as they’re already so thin right now. Robertson will feel a lot of pressure to stay fit.
What of James Milner, too? He’s essentially cover for both full-back positions right now. And that’s while things are uncertain in midfield – where Jurgen Klopp presumably would like him to play.
While we think Liverpool can survive against Ajax, we have major concerns about the weekend. Especially as, at this rate, there will likely be further fitness concerns coming out of Wednesday’s game.
Liverpool and Klopp just can’t catch a break, it seems, and we can only hope that this season evens itself out at some point. Post-World Cup, luck may find the Reds with a full squad for a while. That’s the only positive we can think of – and it’s blind hope at best.
