Chelsea are considering whether or not to pursue a move for Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita.

That’s according to 90min, who claim that Chelsea want the Liverpool player on a free transfer next summer.

The Blues are said to be amongst a Premier League trio of suitors for Keita, with Tottenham and Arsenal also ‘weighing up’ his signing.

Liverpool’s No.8 is claimed to be ‘hugely appealing’ to a number of clubs due to his contract situation.

But should the English sides want to take their interest further, they’ll reportedly have plenty of competition. Should Keita not sign a contract extension at Liverpool, he’s said to have interest from all top five European leagues.

Crunch time for Keita

At this point, many Liverpool fans wouldn’t even notice Keita walking out the exit door. The 27-year-old is yet to feature at all this season after another injury setback.

A lot of supporters have no doubt given up hope of the Guinean ever coming good at Anfield.

As a result, a move to another of the Premier League’s top six wouldn’t rankle as much as it might. Certainly, if Keita was able to shake off his injury worries at another English side, that would stick in the craw.

But if he continues his fitness struggles, wherever he goes, fans may not be all that fussed.

As Keita returns to fitness to finally feature in 2022/23 though, perhaps he can still fashion a Liverpool future for himself. We know Jurgen Klopp will give him every chance to do so. The Reds boss is a big fan of Naby, labelling him ‘incredible’ via liverpoolfc.com in April.

With Fabinho desperately out of form, there is potentially a spot open in midfield. Stay fit after the World Cup, and he could yet prove everyone wrong.

Right now, though, the expectation should be that Keita moves on this summer. Whether or not he stays in the Premier League is anybody’s guess.
