Reported Liverpool transfer target Jonathan David has claimed that he’s ready to leave Lille to join a bigger club.

Speaking via Football Daily, David said he’s hoping to play for a ‘massive’ club in the near future.

“I think the next step is always growing, having more ambition, maybe [play for] a bigger club. Every player wants to play for a massive club in their life. So, I think if I had the chance to do it, I’ll go for it for sure,” said the 22-year-old.

David has been reported as being on Liverpool’s radar since as far back as 2020. Having somewhat surprisingly stayed at Lille this summer, he’s having a good season once again.

After scoring nine goals in 12 Ligue 1 games, he’ll surely be attracting the interest of some big clubs in the coming months.

Liverpool still keeping an eye on long-term target David

Even before his £27m move to Lille in 2020, David has reportedly been catching Liverpool’s eye.

Now in his third season in France, the Canadian has been an impressively consistent goal scorer.

13 league goals in 2019/20 were followed by 15 last campaign. With nine already to his name in 2022/23, he’s well on course to better that again.

A versatile forward who’s good with both feet, it’s easy to see why Liverpool would like David.

Fans should be able to get a good look at him as he forms part of an exciting young Canada side at next month’s World Cup.

Scouts from all over the globe will be at the tournament. If David does well, Liverpool might have to ramp up their efforts to sign him.

Some fans would says another forward isn’t top of Liverpool’s list of priorities right now. But look what happens to the squad when two quality options aren’t available. If Jurgen Klopp is wanting to play 4-4-2 moving forward, they’re going to need much more in reserve.

As Roberto Firmino also edges closer to the exit door, maybe David can even be his long-term successor. With a reported release clause of £42m, he’s surely worth a gamble.
