‘Everything I own’: TalkSPORT pundit predicts who’s going to finish higher this season – Liverpool or Tottenham

TalkSPORT pundit Jermaine Pennant picked between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur for the Premier League’s top four. The ex-Red is certain on his choice.

Liverpool are finally finding some form as they look to get back in the Champions League race. The title race is likely beyond them, ridiculously, but they’ll want to start consolidating a place in the Premier League top four.

The wins over Manchester City and West Ham United go along way to doing that. Confidence is higher than it has been all season, while Jurgen Klopp appears to like his new 4-4-2 formation.

But plenty of sides fancy their chances of finishing there. Arsenal top the league, after all, while Manchester City are inevitable. Then there’s big-spending Chelsea and Manchester United.

Tottenham Hotspur are another, having finished there last season and currently occupy third. That one led to a discussion on TalkSPORT yesterday as Jermaine Pennant suggested Liverpool would comfortably beat Spurs to a place.

“Right now? Yeah [Liverpool are better than Spurs],” he said. “Just because they’re sitting third, it doesn’t mean they’re a better team than Liverpool. Liverpool started very slow, now they’re in gear.

“I would put everything I own on Liverpool [to finish top 4 ahead of Spurs].”

Liverpool vs Tottenham for top four

Not exactly the discussion Liverpool expected to be in at this point of the season. We’ll take it, though – the Reds looked miles behind a few weeks ago.

Right now, we’d agree with Pennant. It does feel as though a corner has been turned and the performances look a lot more consistent. The 4-4-2 has made a massive difference and should only get better.

Pennant isn’t exactly impartial, of course, as a former Liverpool player. We do think he’s right to be confident in Klopp finding a way to get his side solidly in the Champions League spots, though.
