Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez has become the fastest player in Premier League history after last night’s win over West Ham.
According to the Daily Star, Nunez clocked in a speed of 23.61mph at Anfield last night. This was fractionally faster than the previous record holder – Manchester City’s Kyle Walker – who registered 23.48mph in June 2020.
As per the Star, Nunez’s time puts him not too far off the fastest man on Earth – Usain Bolt. Bolt is the quickest person ever recorded, with a top speed of 27.78mph.
For a man of the Uruguayan’s height, this is a seriously impressive statistic. Liverpool look to have got themselves a very special player indeed.

Nunez’s speed is one of the first things you notice when watching him play. He has a rather unusual running style which only seems to accentuate his pace.
The unpredictable manner of his movements must make him a nightmare to defend against.
Certainly, West Ham struggled to effectively deal with the 23-year-old last night. He may have only scored once, but he was unlucky not to get a hat-trick and made a nuisance of himself throughout.
At the moment, Nunez has played exclusively through the middle for Liverpool. But his speed might make him a good candidate to fill in for the injured Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz on the Reds’ left-hand side.
This would also give Mohamed Salah the chance to get close to goal himself.
Jurgen Klopp last night spoke of his desire to get a ‘high-speed’ strike partnership of Salah and Nunez together. If Liverpool can get that working, ‘high-speed’ would be the right way to describe it based on this evidence.
‘High-scoring’ would be another good description – Klopp has called Nunez an ‘exceptional’ finisher, too. Get your two fastest, most prolific forwards as close to the goal as you can, and you might just be on to a winner.
