Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus admits he idolises Liverpool star Thiago. The Spaniard is one of the world’s best at what he does.

Ajax star Mohammed Kudus gave an interview to his club’s website this week where he raved about Liverpool’s Thiago. The Reds’ no.6 is clearly a player that Kudus aspires to, seeing him as the ideal balance in midfield.

“I loved [Thiago’s] game as a child,” said Kudus. “I like creativity and joy of playing.

“When I played in Denmark, a friend of mine arranged a shirt from him. It was fantastic. The shirt is hanging at my home and I am very proud of it.

“Sometimes he plays on ‘six’ but then, despite his defensive duties, he doesn’t lose his creativity. No matter where he plays, he always finds the balance between defense and attack. That’s how I want to play.”

It’s an interesting one as Kudus plays a far more advanced role than Thiago. While the Spaniard likes to sit deeper and control games, passing through the lines to get teams moving, Kudus operates mainly in the last line of attack.

And yet, Kudus still wants to play like Thiago. Not that we’d blame him – Liverpool’s star midfielder is one of the best passers on the planet and capable of doing things that only a select few are capable of.

Kudus did also start his career in a slightly deeper role than he plays now. For what it’s worth, his move into attack is working brilliantly – his eight goals across the Eredivisie and Champions League this season average out at one every 80 minutes.

Still, it’s fantastic to see Liverpool plays make such an impression globally. Thiago is an incredibly special talent and one we’re thrilled to have at Anfield.

And who knows? Maybe that inspires Kudus to follow him one day.
