Liverpool’s Arthur Melo could miss four more months, according to reports. The Brazilian has barely featured for the Reds.

This comes from Gazzetta dello Sport. They claim that Arthur Melo could be out for as many as four months – putting his return date well into 2023.

Arthur arrived at Liverpool at the transfer deadline on a season-long loan from Juventus. It was a surprise deal, certainly, as the Brazilian hadn’t been linked with the Reds at all.

But Liverpool appeared to see potential there. They brought in Arthur but have got just 13 minutes out of him – all in the 4-1 defeat at Napoli.

Now we might not see him lineup for Liverpool again until after the next transfer window. It’s quickly turning into a disaster.

It’s particularly heart-breaking for Arthur as he worked so hard over the international break. He gave up his holidays to remain on Merseyside and train with the Under 21s, hoping to get his fitness up to scratch.

Barry Lewtas described his efforts as ‘first-class’ as Arthur played games at youth level. It felt at that point that Arthur had a genuine shot at earning a place with Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp was supposedly impressed.

And yet, now things look dire. Club football returned and Arthur immediately picked up a serious injury. Now we’re wondering if we’ll ever actually see him play for Liverpool again.

After all, Klopp’s change to a 4-4-2 formation limits the Brazilian’s chances in midfield anyway. Liverpool have gone from three spots for a midfielder like Arthur to two. There’s a chance he’ll be left in the cold regardless of his injury – if Klopp sticks with this formation.

Gazzetta say it could ‘only’ be three months that we’re missing Arthur – we’ll hope for his sake that it’s true. But even then, his Anfield career could be over before it truly started.
