Report: £29m Liverpool player nearly left in the summer, now club are pushing to sign him again

Juventus are still interested in signing Roberto Firmino, after trying to tempt him away from Liverpool during the summer.

That’s according to Calciomercatoweb, who also claim that Juve have now been joined in their interest by AC Milan. After Firmino was reported to have nearly left Liverpool for Juventus last summer, this isn’t a big surprise.

Both Milan and their Serie A rivals are said to see signing the 31-year-old as a ‘great opportunity.’ As the Brazilian’s contract is up next year, he wouldn’t cost either side a penny.

However, matters have reportedly been ‘complicated’ by Firmino’s recent good form. As a result of his excellent start to the season, it’s claimed that Bobby could still have his contract extended at Anfield.

Such a scenario would see Milan and Juventus’ interest ‘up in smoke.’

Firmino giving Liverpool a decision to make

As we inch towards the January transfer window, we might start to see a fair number of stories surrounding Firmino.

If the Brazil star can keep up his good form, then these are likely to be even more widespread.

For Juventus, it does seem as though there’s a long-term interest there. Although reports that Firmino nearly left Liverpool in the off-season were dismissed by those at the club, at one stage it seemed as though he might.

Thankfully that never came to pass. Where would Liverpool be without their No.9 this season?

That’s a question that Jurgen Klopp didn’t have to answer. But given that Liverpool are seemingly happy to let Bobby run down his contract, next season he might.

On the one hand, there is some logic to letting the £29m man leave next year. He’ll be thirty-two not long into the new season and Liverpool are looking ahead to a bit of an overhaul of the squad. Signing up an aging player for a few more years is exactly the kind of practice that Liverpool should stay away from.

But on the other, Bobby is such a unique player that Liverpool would do well to keep him for as long as possible. He seems happy at the club where he’s played for going on eight years and shouldn’t decline so much with age as he doesn’t rely on his pace.

His form is giving the Reds a big decision to make. If they don’t want Firmino, it seems as though plenty of others will have him instead.
