Calvin Ramsay scores on his competitive debut for Liverpool as the Under 21s played in the Papa John’s Trophy. The right-back is up and running.
Calvin Ramsay got his first run-out in a Liverpool shirt on Tuesday evening as the Under 21s played Accrington Stanley in the Papa John’s Trophy. The teenager played roughly half an hour as a substitute – and took his moment to make a statement.
Ramsay popped up in stoppage time as Liverpool attempted a comeback from 3-0 down. The teenager pounced in the 91st minute to score, getting his first competitive goal for the Reds in the process.
Of course, it’s technically not a senior goal but we’re not entirely sure what you call this one. All we know for sure is that Ramsay appears to be fitting in quickly – and at the right time, too.
The Scot should feature for the first-team at some point this season. An injury found during his medical ruled him out for months, though, eliminating his pre-season. Thus it’s taking some time to get Ramsay up to speed.
Games for the U21s will help massively, as we’re already seeing. Hopefully, it’s not too long before Jurgen Klopp gives him a go at the highest level.
Calvin Ramsay scores on debut
Ramsay wasn’t the only success story from the night, either. Ben Doak also came off the bench to score, getting one deep into stoppage time – the 93rd minute.

That comes as Doak lights things up at Under 18 and Under 19 level. He scored a magnificent solo goal against Rangers last week, with manager Barry Lewtas saying “it’s hard to believe” that he’s still only 16.
The goal prompted Lewtas to give him a go with the U21s and the inevitable happened – a goal from one of the brightest prospects at Liverpool right now. Ramsay is sure to make the senior side at some pint and it feels as though Doak isn’t too far behind his compatriot.
