Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson has predicted that Liverpool will finish in the Premier League top four this season.
Speaking to the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson insisted that the Reds would finish with Champions League football despite their poor start.
“Liverpool are a top side. They’re obviously going to finish in the Champions League spots, their squad is too strong not to,” said the striker.
“But it’s about showing some consistency and hitting the ground running sooner rather than later, because if you leave it too late you have too much work to do.”

Plenty of time for Liverpool to chase the pack
At the moment, the top four feels a relatively long way away for Liverpool. But still high on the optimism of last night’s 7-1 drubbing of Rangers, it is actually much closer than many fans would realise.
Not many would blame Reds fans for refusing to look at the league table right now. Those that do will see their beloved team sitting in an unfamiliar 10th place, with 10 points from eight games.
Pretty disappointing to say the least, that much is clear. But all hope shouldn’t be lost. Chelsea are the current holders of the coveted fourth spot, with six points more than Liverpool.
Six points. Two wins.

Now this could be looked at two ways. The fact there’s such a gap after so few games will be seen by many as an admission that Liverpool are already too far off the pace.
But there’s a flipside to that. It also means that Jurgen Klopp’s team still have 30 games to make up that ground. In that time they still play many of their top four rivals twice, as well as Manchester United and Arsenal at Anfield.
It’s also now the team’s above Liverpool’s chance to turn the screw on Manchester City. Liverpool have been doing that for the last few years and it’s exhausting.
As the fellow top-four hopefuls try desperately to keep up with City, don’t be surprised to see a few flounder. Sometimes in football it’s much easier to be the chaser than the ones being chased. Wilson is right, Liverpool have the quality, now it’s up to them.
