Andy Robertson says Mohamed Salah is guaranteed to score goals this season, after a thrilling Liverpool hat-trick last night.
Salah was in sizzling form as he hit a record-breaking 6-minute treble against Rangers at Ibrox. And speaking to the Liverpool Echo after the game, Robertson said the goals will be a launch-pad for his teammate.
“That’s what he can do! You give Mo chances and he will score goals. So that will give him loads of confidence from that,” said the 28-year-old. “He’s a fantastic, unbelievable player. Obviously, he came on and wanted to get his name on the scoresheet. Luckily he’s managed to get three. Hopefully that will give him confidence and hopefully there’s a lot more goals to come from him.”
Here’s hoping, Robbo. Liverpool’s fortunes will surely be very much linked to whether or not Salah can build on last night’s historic showing.
Salah shows he’s still got it
In a season of dismals lows so far, Liverpool were served up plenty of positives in Glasgow. Amidst Roberto Firmino’s continued good form and another goal for Darwin Nunez, Salah’s hat-trick was probably the pick of the bunch.
The Egyptian needs to make sure he builds on it, though. His goals last night put the icing on the cake for the Reds, but they didn’t alter the result.
If he doesn’t use them to fire himself back into form, then they’ll have been nothing more than window dressing.
Perhaps the goals should also serve as a message to Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool boss has had it levelled at him that Salah has been playing too wide this season.
When on the pitch last night, it was noticeable that the 30-year-old was closer to the goal.
It’s clear that Jurgen needs to find a way of getting Salah more central, while not impinging on the space Darwin Nunez has to work in.
Plenty for Klopp to work on in the three days he has to prepare for Manchester City’s visit on Sunday.
Salah has found the net plenty of times in this fixture during his five years at Liverpool. Another at the weekend could be crucial to getting his team back up the table.
