‘On a different level’: McCoist blown away watching ‘outstanding’ Liverpool player against Rangers tonight

Roberto Firmino showed just how dangerous he can be with an ‘outstanding’ performance v Rangers tonight. The Liverpool striker was amazing.

Liverpool crushed Rangers 7-1 at Ibrox in a performance we’ll remember for a long time. Two players stole the show – Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Salah didn’t even start the game and played around 20 minutes. Still, he managed to score a hat-trick in six minutes – the fastest in Champions League history.

But he wasn’t the player Ally McCoist was raving about post-match. He reserved his praise for Firmino, who truly tore Rangers apart.

“I know Salah came on and got a hattrick,” said McCoist on BT Sport. “But I thought the game intelligence overall shown tonight by Firmino was absolutely on a different level.

“He was outstanding tonight.”

Roberto Firmino v Rangers

What a performance. Firmino won this game, even with Salah’s efforts at the end. He equalised for Liverpool, then put them in front, then made an outrageous assist for the third.

By the time he went off, Rangers were done and Liverpool had the points. Bobby at his best.

And what a run of form this is. Firmino has five goals and an assist in his last three starts – the kind of record we didn’t even think he was capable of anymore. After all, his contract is up at the end of the season with little talk surrounding a new one.

But to say he’s busy earning a new one is an understatement. Firmino is carrying Liverpool at times and one of the few bright sparks over the last weeks.

We can’t imagine Liverpool letting him go or even reaching January without a new contract on this kind of form. He’s just that good and appears to thrive in this 4-4-2 formation.

We’ll be crossing our fingers for an update sometime soon.
