Liverpool’s two injuries against Arsenal don’t sound good. That’s according to Jurgen Klopp, talking after the 3-2 defeat.
Jurgen Klopp delivered a quick update on Liverpool’s two injuries against Arsenal on Sunday. The Reds not only lost the game 3-2 but saw both Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold leave the pitch early.
“[Alexander-Arnold] is injured, unfortunately,” he told the BBC. “Like Luis Diaz as well, it doesn’t look good for both. That is the icing on the cake…”
Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool’s two injuries
‘Icing on the cake’, indeed. Klopp took a risk by playing the exact same XI that faced Rangers in midweek. Especially after most of them also played against Brighton the previous weekend.
To be fair to the boss, though, Diaz only played the second half against the Seagulls. To be even fairer, we’re not sure either player’s injury was the result of fatigue.
Instead, it was a pair of unfortunate incidents that appears to have done the damage. Diaz twisted his knee, Alexander-Arnold his ankle. Now it sounds as though they’ll be out for the next little while.

And who’s next in the Premier League? Why, Manchester City of course! Liverpool may need to face Pep Guardiola’s side without two key players. This is turning into one hell of a season for all the wrong reasons.
Joe Gomez will likely come in for Alexander-Arnold – as he did against Arsenal. Roberto Firmino is again the obvious replacement for Diaz, too, with Diogo Jota moving left.
Though, it could also spark a switch back to 4-3-3, just so Liverpool don’t have every available forward on the pitch. There’s also the big question about what to do at Rangers. Firmino and Gomez were almost certainly starting that one – can Klopp afford to risk them now?
We’re really not fancying this cake, to be honest.
