‘He’s been the one’: Gary Neville names the Liverpool player who Arsenal just couldn’t deal with

Gary Neville had positive words to say about Darwin Nunez after his goal v Arsenal for Liverpool on Sunday. The Uruguayan was dangerous.

Liverpool went to the Emirates with a clear gameplan – attack Arsenal’s high line. They did that with a front-four of dynamic forwards, with the Reds pinging passes in behind at every opportunity.

And that’s how they got their first equaliser. Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a high ball over the top, with the Gunners’s defence struggling to deal with it. A deflection found Luis Diaz, who darted to the byline and fired one across for Darwin Nunez.

It was a well-deserved goal for Nunez, too. He was the primary Liverpool player making those runs in behind Arsenal, after all. It’s something Gary Neville was sure to point out on commentary.

“Nunez gets the goal which I think he deserves because he’s been the one who has caused Arsenal the most problems,” said Neville on Sky Sports

Nunez wasn’t perfect by any means but this was a promising display from him. He fully deserved the goal and his effort was first class all game long.

You can see the gameplan with him, too. Liverpool are far more direct and once things click, Nunez will find goals. We’ve just all got to remember that we’re still in the very early days here.

The goal shows how promising things are but the overall performance was something to shout about. Liverpool just need to get players buzzing around him, much as Luis Diaz did on the goal.

Mohamed Salah is perhaps the strangest one. He barely had a kick all game and spent virtually all of it glued to the flank. Getting the Egyptian to mesh properly with Nunez is possibly the big task at hand.

Make that happen, though, and Liverpool will get the best from their Uruguayan. He’s a dangerous player – it’s now about taking advantage of that.
