Liverpool are prepared to include a player in their deal for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports. The Reds seem to want the Serbian.
This comes from CalcioMercatoWeb. They claim Liverpool want Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and could push Lazio for a £62m deal next summer.
Competition is fierce, though. Juventus, AC Milan, Manchester United and Chelsea all want the player, too, and it appears a deal can be done.
However, Liverpool intend to push their way to the front of the queue. They’ll do that by including Joe Gomez in any deal, with the player valued at over £30m.
That, says the article, might be enough to outmuscle the likes of Juventus.
Liverpool seek Sergej Milinkovic-Savic deal
We’re not entirely buying this. Would Liverpool like to sign Milinkovic-Savic? Probably, as he’s a very talented player. We can’t see the Reds finding £62m of value in him, though.
And we certainly can’t see any reason to give up Gomez to strike any deal. It would leave them short at the back, while it just doesn’t feel like good business. Gomez is a very talented – and younger – player than the Serbian. Liverpool aren’t necessarily in a better position with this move.

But then, reports like this tend to be obsessed with the idea of swap deals. They very, very rarely happen, however, and we don’t see the logic in this one.
Milinkovic-Savic should be fairly far down the list of transfer targets, too. Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde and Nico Barella are all players worth going all-out for. Maybe even worth giving up valuable players for.
We don’t think the Lazio star is that, though. He’d be well worth a go if a bargain deal were on the table but that isn’t the case. Lazio value him highly, with Maurizio Sarri saying he’s ‘one of the best’ he’s ever worked with earlier this year.
Instead, we’d like to see Liverpool focus their efforts elsewhere next summer.
