‘Will have a field day’: Sutton shares why £34m Liverpool star will love playing against Rangers tonight

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah will love playing against Rangers in tonight’s Champions League game.

That’s according to Chris Sutton, who believes that Rangers left-back Borna Barisic may struggle to contain the Liverpool star.

“Kent is the danger-man. They’ve got issues at the back, Ben Davies, a former Liverpool player, played at the weekend alongside Connor Goldson, but I worry about Barisic,” the pundit told BBC 5 Live’s The Monday Night Club.

“He has great delivery but Mo Salah going up against him will have a field day. But Rangers have to view it as a shot to nothing – go there, play with confidence, and hope to catch Liverpool on a downer. I still fancy Liverpool to win the game but Rangers are capable.”

Liverpool must capitalise on group rivals facing off

There can’t be any excuses for Liverpool tonight. They simply have to win. Having rescued the three points in Matchday 2 against Ajax, they need to make sure they consolidate that position.

With Ajax facing Napoli in Amsterdam, Liverpool must capitalise on whoever drops points there.

A win tonight and the group could be looking a whole lot better ahead of next week’s visit to Ibrox.

That won’t be a trip to relish for Liverpool fans. Rangers may have been beaten there comfortably by Napoli, but the atmosphere will likely be ramped up further by the prospect of a visit from the Reds.

Remarkably, these two famous old clubs have never played each other in a competitive fixture.

As a result, the Glaswegians will no doubt be keen to show the Liverpool fans why Ibrox has such a reputation.

Pre-empting that, Liverpool need to help themselves. They can’t afford to create nerves amongst the crowd by conceding first yet again tonight. It has to be better than what we’ve seen recently.

Rangers will be desperate to get their first points on the board in this Champions League campaign. If £34m Salah is on form, they’ll have less chance of doing that, no matter the left-back he faces.
