Liverpool continued their UEFA Youth League campaign on Tuesday with yet another top performance. The Reds have a lot to shout about.

First came a win over Napoli in Naples, then a dominant display against Ajax. Now Liverpool Under 19s have made it three UEFA Youth League wins out of three.

They’ve beaten Rangers 4-1 in Kirkby to keep maximum points in the group and they’ve done it with four different goalscorers, too. Ben Doak was one of those, keeping up his great form as he makes waves at youth level.

The Scot will take extra pride in that one, given he’s a former Celtic talent. It doesn’t get much better than slotting against Rangers.

Oakley Cannonier got another goal here, too. He’s now scored in all three fixtures, including a hat-trick against Ajax last week. It takes the striker to five goals in three games – a formidable record.

Maybe we shouldn’t be surprised, though. Cannonier scored for fun at Under 18s level last season and is finding it easy to move those goals to the Under 19s.

Barry Lewtas, who coaches both the Under 21s and Under 19s, recently said it would be the youngster’s ‘turn’ in the Youth League. He could make a similar impact that the likes of Curtis Jones managed, he says.

That’s now looking accurate, to say the least. Cannonier is one of the brightest young talents at Liverpool right now – one who appears to have a natural knack for scoring goals.

The big question is whether he can now start scoring for the U21s – as there’s little doubt that U19 football is a level he’s more than comfortable at. Still, the Reds will hope his form continues at that level all season because right now, Liverpool have a genuine chance to go far in the Youth League.
