Michael Owen is seriously impressed by Luis Diaz as the player keeps up his great form in a struggling Liverpool side. The Colombian is something special.
Luis Diaz is having a great season, even if Liverpool aren’t. The player continues to pop up with big moments just when the Reds need them.
The most recent example came against Brighton at the weekend. Liverpool went into half-time 2-1 down and brought Diaz on for the second period.
It wasn’t long before he weaved in and out of defenders to find Roberto Firmino, who equalised with a brilliant finish. But that’s just the latest Diaz moment. His goal when a man down against Crystal Palace was sensational, while he did all he could in the disaster vs Napoli.
Michael Owen believes the player needs praise for all he’s done – a bright spark in a struggling Liverpool side.
“Right back back to when he first made his debut, he looked like a Liverpool player,” he told BT Sport. “The way he plays, the way he chases the ball out of possession, the way he presses.
“I know the lads say Alisson has been their standout player but I think closely followed by this guy.
“Even while they’re struggling, he’s still got that great attitude. Away at Napoli, at certain times, he’s just been unbelievable this season. And in a struggling Liverpool side, by their standards, he’s been a bright spark for me.
“He just looks born to play in this Red shirt.”
Luis Diaz in sparkling form
Diaz is unquestionably one of the bright sparks this season. One of very few – perhaps only Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Harvey Elliott join him in that.
And in truth, he’s a player built for moments like this. Diaz produces moments of magic, irrespective of how the team is playing. It’s the kind of skill Liverpool really need right now.
If any player is going to help the Reds rediscover their own form, it’s Diaz.
