Curtis Jones absent from Liverpool training once again ahead of Rangers

Curtis Jones was absent from Liverpool training once again ahead of the Reds’ meeting with Rangers on Tuesday. The midfielder just can’t get fit.

Liverpool streamed footage from their pre-Rangers training session on YouTube this Monday and in truth, it wasn’t particularly eventful. One thing that did standout out, however, was Curtis Jones once again being absent.

The midfielder has had a torrid start to the season. One injury escalated into something more serious and continues to keep Jones out. It’s not even supposed to be a particularly serious problem – just one that won’t go away.

And so Jones will almost certainly play no part as Liverpool host Rangers later this evening. It will be their third Champions League fixture – and a must-win one – and Klopp, once again, will have a squad light in midfield.

In what is a massive season for Jones, he just can’t seem to catch a break.

As we say, midfield is light. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also missing, of course. It leaves Arthur as the only midfielder who didn’t play against Brighton at the weekend.

Is that enough for him to get a game? Probably, in all truth. Liverpool take on Arsenal at the weekend, meaning rotation is important here. Arthur being fresh will surely get him minutes against a side the Reds should expect to beat.

There will likely be other changes, too. Calvin Ramsay is now training regularly and could make his Liverpool debut tonight. We’d expect Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota to start, too, while it’ll be interesting to see what Klopp does with Mohamed Salah. Should he save him for Arsenal?

More attention will be on Trent Alexander-Arnold, too. We think he might step out for Joe Gomez at right-back but Liverpool’s form is such that selections are impossible to predict right now.
