Roberto Firmino’s quality ‘is in a different class’ to Thiago, according to the BBC’s Garth Crooks. The Brazilian is earning high praise.

Roberto Firmino saved Liverpool on Saturday afternoon. He found two goals to bring his team back into the game, with the Reds having surrendered a 2-0 lead at Anfield vs Brighton.

The game eventually finished 3-3, of course, but this would have been an embarrassment without Firmino. He was truly a difference-maker for Liverpool – and not for the first time.

That earned praise from Garth Crooks, writing for the BBC. He included Firmino in his Team of the Week, hailing him as one of Liverpool’s main men.

“These were two finishes of the highest quality by Bobby Firmino,” says Crooks. “The Brazilian may not have the legs anymore to command a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.

“However, if you require a cool head in front of goal, especially when the chips are down, you need look no further than Firmino to get your team back on track.”

Crooks then went on a bizarre rant about Thiago and his lack of running. The comment on Firmino ends with a comparison to the Spaniard, in fact.

“Thiago certainly has his moments but if we are going to compare their contributions and the importance each player provides the team, then Firmino is in a different class.”

Roberto Firmino’s quality

No one is in a different class to Thiago outside of maybe Lionel Messi. The midfielder truly is that good.

Despite that, it’s still great to see Firmino get deserved praise – even if it’s the first time we’ve seen him hailed as a clinical goalscorer. The Brazilian is many things as a centre-forward but we’re not sure he’s that.

It’s unquestionable that Firmino’s goalscoring is better than every right now, though. That’s now five Premier League goals in six appearances – matching what he managed in 20 last season.

At this rate, Firmino is going to earn himself a new contract and possibly define how Liverpool move forward.
