Former Liverpool captain Sami Hyypia has claimed that Darwin Nunez will ‘come good’ at Anfield.
In quotes from Bernama, Hyypia expressed understanding for Nunez’s difficulty in adapting to Liverpool. But despite early struggles, the 48-year-old claimed that the Liverpool player will improve.
“I know it’s not easy to adapt to the Premier League, takes a little time to adapt. But he will come good. He will score a lot of goals,” predicted Hyypia
Darwin has two goals in his first six games for the Reds as he tries to nail down a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Nunez struggling to find rhythm so far
It has felt like an immensely stop-start beginning to Nunez’s time at Liverpool so far. This was obviously partly down to his sending off on his first ever start for the club. But it hasn’t all been the 23-year-old’s fault.
The death of Queen Elizabeth II put the kibosh on the Premier League and means that Liverpool haven’t played in the competition for nearly a month.
Add to that the fact that he’s been in and out of the team when he has been available. All this amounts to a difficult time adapting to his new surroundings.
It hasn’t helped that Erling Haaland has been banging in the goals relentlessly for Manchester City either.
But Liverpool should be patient. Klopp alluded to the fact that Nunez is a work in progress when he signed. That still remains the case and would even if he was matching Haaland’s output.
There have been calls for the Liverpool boss to start throwing the Uruguayan in from the start more regularly. But Jurgen has so far resisted those calls.
With games coming thick and fast now, Nunez will hopefully be able to get a bit more rhythm. With rhythm, hopefully the goals will start to flow too.
As Hyppia says, the former Benfica man will come good. Fingers crossed we start seeing that over the coming weeks.
