'So buzzing!': Liverpool player finally gets his EFL Cup winner's medal after seven months

Liverpool’s Harvey Blair showed off his EFL Cup medal on Thursday, having finally received it after seven months. The 19-year-old gets his first.

Harvey Blair was clearly thrilled this week as he finally got his hands on an EFL Cup winner’s medal. He took to Twitter to show it off with the words ‘so buzzing’.

Blair didn’t feature in the final – and, in fact, didn’t make the squad. He did contribute for Liverpool in the competition, though, as he played 55 minutes against Preston North End.

The teenager struggled on his senior debut, though. Jurgen Klopp did move to absolve Blair of any blame for that after the game, saying Liverpool simply failed to involve him enough.

“The game for Harvey [Blair] in the first half was really not easy and we didn’t really involve him in the game,” he said, per Sky Sports.

Blair, then, waits on a second appearance for the senior side. That first is one he’ll never forget, though – especially as it eventually earned him a medal.

It’s always great to see academy products benefit like this. Rhian Brewster famously got a Champions League winner’s medal after featuring in the matchday squad in Madrid.

Blair can outright say he contributed in the EFL Cup, though. He wasn’t simply on the bench and did play in the competition that Liverpool eventually won.

That’s something to be proud of as a teenager. Admittedly, Blair was a somewhat surprising inclusion on the day and had earned a spot by impressing in training that week. We can’t say he’s really come close to another appearance since – but you’d never rule it out.

Liverpool are blessed with talent in their academy and Blair shouldn’t be the last to benefit with a medal. The Reds will hope to repeat their success in the competition, with youngsters likely playing a role in the early rounds.

So with that in mind, we can’t wait to see who Klopp picks against Derby County later this month.
