Jordan Henderson has shared what Adam Lallana has said to him about playing Liverpool for Brighton this weekend.

Speaking to The Mirror, the Liverpool captain admitted that he had spoken to his old teammate ahead of the game. Brighton may be heading into it as slight underdogs, but Lallana told Henderson he’s looking forward to the match.

“I speak to Adam a lot, and yeah he’s looking forward to coming back to Anfield and I’m sure he’ll get a fantastic reception as always, as he has before,” said the 32-year-old. “I’m sure he’ll be ready for the game, but for me it’s a case of business as usual as soon as it kicks off and hopefully, we can show that.”

Lallana is so far unbeaten in his two visits back to Anfield since leaving in 2020. Liverpool need to make sure he doesn’t make that a hat-trick on Saturday.

Liverpool finally back in Premier League action

Finally, some football to get our teeth into this weekend. It has felt like an age since Liverpool last played a Premier League game.

In some ways, the break has been good for the Reds. They weren’t in great form at the time they played their last game – against Everton on September 2nd.

Despite that, they are actually three games unbeaten in the league. Two wins and draw at Goodison Park is something to build on and they’ll hope to do that on Saturday.

Brighton won’t be an easy game at all. The Seagulls are currently in 4th place in the league, four points ahead of Liverpool.

But they’ve just lost celebrated manager Graham Potter. They’ve done well to get an exciting coach in to replace him – Italian Roberto De Zerbi – but he may take time to settle in.

As a result, it could well be a good time to play Brighton.

Liverpool will certainly hope so. They’ve haven’t beaten the South Coast side at Anfield since November 2019. If that doesn’t change this weekend, worries about this season will be amplified.

Hopefully the break has done them good, though. One or two key players have had a decent rest over the last two weeks and should be ready to make Lallana’s latest return to Anfield a miserable one.
