Liverpool could make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who claim that Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in the Italian.
One of Inter’s best players, it may have been thought that Barella was ‘untouchable in Milan. But this is reportedly not the case. In fact, all of Inter’s ‘big’ players are reportedly on the market in the next windows.
As a result of the club’s financial situation, it’s claimed that they’re looking for a ‘heavy’ sale. Any of Barella, Lautaro Martinez or Alessandro Bastoni could be sacrificed to make this happen in January.
As well as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur are also claimed to have legitimate interest in Barella.
Barella a good fit for Klopp
Ever since it became clear that Liverpool’s midfield will be revamped in the near future, Barella has been mooted as a potential option. It would be a signing that would make a lot of sense.
His all-action displays and tremendous quality on the ball would make him a good fit for Liverpool.
Add to that the fact that he’s supposedly available for the right price and, at twenty-five, is still a good age.
Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp is a well-known admirer of the Italy international. Speaking before Liverpool faced Inter in the Champions League last season, the Reds boss called Barella ‘top-class’ via Eurosport.
There have been some suggestions that Barella isn’t especially keen to leave his home nation, though.
But with Inter needing to make a big sale and no one in Italy well-placed to oblige with that, he may have to entertain the idea. If he can, then where better than Liverpool.
The Reds haven’t done especially well with Italian players throughout their history. The last to play for the club was a certain Mario Balotelli.
But that shouldn’t put them off. Barella is a cut above most midfielders on the planet and would be a pretty perfect addition.
