Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was far better than Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal last night.
That’s according to Goal, who claim that the Liverpool man was ‘full of enterprise’ throughout the 1-0 loss to Spain.
Starting on the left of Portugal’s forward line, Jota is said to have been his team’s ‘most potent attacking threat.’
One ball in particular for Ronaldo is described as being ‘scintillating’ but the United man couldn’t capitalise. In fact, Ronaldo’s performance on the whole reportedly left a lot to be desired. The 37-year-old was claimed to be ‘chasing lost causes and running down cul-de-sac’s’ across the 90 minutes.

Jota getting back to his best
Regardless of the Ronaldo stuff, this is really great to hear from a Liverpool point of view.
Jota hasn’t really been able to get going so far this season. That isn’t down to any fault of his own, but due to a hamstring injury sustained during the last set of international fixtures in June.
As a result of that, he has only managed 104 minutes of action for Liverpool in 2022/23.
Despite that, he looked somewhere near his best in the Reds last game before the break. Given a surprise start by Jurgen Klopp against Ajax, Jota was a constant threat as Liverpool won 2-1.

The 25-year-old backed this up with a goal off the bench in Portugal’s 4-0 win over Czech Republic on Saturday.
Although he wasn’t able to find the net last night, it sounds as though that wasn’t for a lack of quality.
With the fixture list now chock full until the World Cup in Novemeber, Liverpool need Jota badly. It looks like we can finally expect to see the player who lit up the first half of last season once again.
With Darwin Nunez on the scoresheet for Uruguay last night, Klopp has a decision to make ahead of Saturday’s game with Brighton. Both Nunez and Jota have enjoyed a good time away with their country’s. Either would warrant a start at the weekend. Let’s see what Jurgen decides.
