Newcastle United want Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to reports. They’re not put off of the Liverpool target’s price-tag, either.

This comes from i News. They claim that Newcastle United are the latest team to enter the race for Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Shakhtar Donestk winger is thriving right now and commanding interest from all over Europe.

Hence the asking price. Shakhtar reportedly want just shy of £50m to sell the 21-year-old after his start to the season. It’s a price that Newcastle are happy to pay, however.

That may just see them win a race that features, as per the report, Arsenal, Everton and Brentford. The better Mudryk plays in the Champions League this season, though, the more that price could rise.

Liverpool are another side linked with Mudryk. Calciomercato believe there’s interest from the Reds – and we imagine that’s true.

Mudryk is demonstrating a high level in Europe and seems completely unfazed in the Champions League. That’ll alert everyone to the 21-year-old, especially as he plays in such an exciting style.

We think Liverpool can justify the move, too, if they change how Fabio Carvalho fits into the squad. Mudryk could operate as their chief left-sided creative midfielder, potentially drifting out to the wing for some games.

But we’re not sure that’s worth £50m. Newcastle’s involvement will always push prices up, especially as what proves value-for-money there isn’t the same for Liverpool. £50m is an enormous price for a player who likely won’t alter the Reds too much – he’d just be a fascinating addition.

Newcastle, though, will want to take chances on players like this. Mudryk could end up turning into a world-beater, even if the chances are slim. When you’ve got a developing side and money to burn, why not take that chance? Liverpool, though, are in a very different position.

And so we can’t quite see this one happening if Newcastle really are willing to drop £50m here. Liverpool are best served looking elsewhere.
